COVID-19 FAQs

Summer Session 2020

In light of recent guidance by the University leadership, Summer Session courses will only be offered in either an online or remote teaching format. Leadership will make a decision on May 15 whether or not on-campus courses starting on July 6 or later will move to online or remote teaching formats.

What is the difference between a course taught online and a course taught remotely?

Courses offered as ‘online’ are mostly delivered asynchronously with synchronous live sessions each week. These courses have been taught online before or were designed for online learning when they were created. In Class Search or Browse Classes, these are listed under the campus of Online Learning (DO).

Courses offered as 'remote' were originally designed to be taught in-person. Similar to the way Spring 2020 in-person classes were modified due to the impact of COVID-19. These courses will either be taught synchronously, asynchronously or a combination of both. In Class Search or Browse Classes, these courses will be listed under the campus of Main (M).

Will all in-person courses be offered remotely?

It is possible some in-person courses will be canceled. If a course is canceled and you are registered for the course, you will be notified by the Office of the Registrar. Students will not be charged for courses that are canceled and the courses will not be listed on a transcript.

Will the Pass / No Credit grade mode be an option for Summer 2020?

No, the Pass / No Credit grade mode was an option specifically approved for the Spring 2020 semester and is not available for summer 2020.

What do I do if I want to drop my summer course(s)?

If you are within the drop deadline, you can drop through NOVO. However, if you only have one course on your summer schedule the system will not let you drop it and you will need to send an email to sumsess.1@nd.edu for information.

If I drop my course, will it be listed on my transcript?

If you drop within the drop deadline, your course will not show up on a transcript.

Will I be charged for a dropped course?

If you drop within the refund deadline, you will not be charged tuition.
